Horizon (Sky Window)

 

The position of the observatory in our backyard allows great views to the South (from East to West), but has many big oak trees to the North, obscurring the view of the sky. Although I can actually see some stars (e.g., Polaris) through the trees, as the earth rotates most stars are covered by branches, precluding unattended imaging. The horizon graph for our observatory used with TheSky6 is shown below:

This makes for a rather small "hole in the sky" that can be observed from Sierra Skies Observatory, as shown below, using the horizon feature in TheSky6. (note that this was done during the daytime, so the sun is shown in the sky) While viewing can be done at lower angles, this is the restricted view that I can image reliably.
