Meade EP Bino Pairs

Matched Pairs of Classic Eyepieces for Binocular Viewing

BinoPairs1

In order to provide comfortable viewing for extended periods, one can use a "BinoViewer" - or binocular viewer. This is a device which allows the single image coming from the scope to be viewed with both eyes (see the Binoviewer page). If using a binoviewer, it is necessary to have pairs of eyepieces (preferably "matched") - one for each eye.

The above photo shows a set of Meade eyepieces that were matched to provide great viewing as bino pairs (left three columns in top two strips, and right three columns in next two strips). These come in a range of focal lengths - 6.4 mm, 9.7 mm, 12.4 mm, 15 mm, 20 mm, and 25 mm. They are the older, Japanese-made eyepieces - still the "4000" series, but the early versions, sometimes referred to as "volcano tops". These are considered quite good for inexpensive eyepieces (they sell used for around $50 each). As I have moved from visual observing to astro-imaging, I sold the Megrez 90, and the FSQ-106 is mounted in the observatory, so I no longer have a portable system to take into the field. Therefore, I have sold these eyepieces and the Stellarvue binoviewer.
